Xbox One worth it? + What accessories

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm currently living in New Delhi but my dad is going to the USA next week. I'm thinking of ordering the Xbox One from there since it'll turn out to be cheaper. There is no pal/ntsc issues anymore right?

Also, if I buy it, is the Kinect worth it or should I buy it without it?

Finally, what games + accessories should I order with it?

Thanks,

Crazysah

i don't know this one, found this

Pal and NTSC were really much of a muchness for the old days of gaming, when resolutions and TV Hz used to be different speed, depending on what country you lived in. Especially if you owned a SNES, like i did. The English ran at slower than the US, JAP versions and because of this, a lot of people got the abroad one, only problem with that was the game would not work, as the US was a different shape to the UK/JAP.

Hope this help.

I suggest definitely spring for the Kinect--the voice commands are really nice for most people. I don't enjoy it personally, but a majority of folks do. A lot of the things it can do, like auto-sign-in when it sees you, are certainly convenient. I don't know many games that use it yet, but the technology is really good and I can see a lot of good things taking advantage of it in the future.

As for games, it really depends on what you like to play. Popular exclusives are of course the remade Halo Master Chief Collection and Forza 5, and Destiny is all the rage now...

Whenever this question comes up, I always fall back on the same response:

Look at the games and features of the console. If they appeal to you, its worth buying.

As far as Kinect goes, again, find out what it does and see if that appeals to you. While it can play motion games like the previous version, its real purpose now is as an integrated controller for the entire experience. You will also want to check and see what features might not be accessible yet in your region.

I enjoy the Kinect for voice commands, though it's certainly not necessary and can sometimes be flaky. Despite that I wouldn't want to not have Kinect. As for accessories, I'd get a Play n Charge kit for the controller but nothing else comes to mind as a must-have. What games really depends on what your preferences are. If you like FPS, I'd honestly still go ahead and pick up Titanfall. For racers, Forza is the obvious choice. Destiny is the current flavor, but it's hugely hit or miss for people so if you haven't checked out reviews and critiques yet I would before snapping that up. Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is an excellent game all around. There are a ton of great ID@Xbox indie games as well (60 Second Shooter Prime and Super Time Force come to mind, but I have a small collection I haven't played yet that are all supposed to be excellent) - and they're cheap.

You will probably need to purchase a different power brick, US is 120V/60Hz and India is 230V/50Hz.

Most electronics manufacturers have transformers which can accept both but I don't think Microsoft does the same with Xbox One, it had another guy in India who wanted to do the same but didn't want to buy from US because of the power ratings on the Xbox One power brick.

Look at the kinect lineup of games and see if you like any of the 7. I'm doubtful anything else better than those will surface any time soon. The other thing kinect does is auto-recognize you and sign you in, as well as accept voice commands.

For accessories I think the controller batteries are weak, so a play and charge kit may be handy. Xbox live and a headset may help too.

Looks like the power brick is regonalized, http://misterxmedia.livejournal.com/135777.html 100-127V just like the newer 360s.

Voltage isn't an issue. Already have the converter. I guess the Kinect is worth it in the end but that can always be purchased separately can't it?

Am thinking of getting Titanfall, Forza (which one though; 5 or Motorsport 2?), FIFA 15, Battlefield and Destiny along with Kinect Sports and the extra controller.

Thanks guys!

Not yet, but it launches this month: http://news.xbox.com/2014/08/xbox-one-standalone-kinect

And you mean Forza Motorsport 5 vs Forza Horizon 2 :p 5 is half a sim game, but Horizon is a spin off arcade series with more content.

I'd go with Horizon 2, purely because it's still fresh on the system. I reckon FM5 will be one of the first editions to X1 GwG to counter DCPS+

If you have friends with an Xbox One, and the console offers the sort of games you'll get enjoyment out of - go for it! It's a decent console alright.

You'll be able to buy Kinect separately pretty soon, but it'll cost you more than if you just get it bundled with the console.

Be a bit more specific.

Forza 5 is a track racing sim exclusively. Forza Horizon 2 is an open world racer. Compared to Horizon 1, 2 picks up more sim options, putting it between a straight up sim and arcade racer if you choose to set it up that way.

Got the Kinect. Got an extra controller. Got a few games. Anything else I need?

Charger pack for controllers including charging dock, unless you want to change batteries all the time. Maybe some headphones with microphone?

Xbox One seems to be very popular in India, I think you are like the third person from India requesting information like this on these forums.

Okay, so I bought the Xbox One and all the games. I got it from the USA and now it is in India. I called up Xbox Support and they said when they'd have a power supply (to sell separately), they'd charge me an out of station fee, which I'm fine with. Problem is, they don't have one now.

Any other alternatives I have in the meanwhile?
