Texas City plumber's truck ends up in Syrian war

Recommended Posts

TEXAS CITY ? A local plumber is being flooded with phone calls ? and some threats ? after a picture of one of his old company vehicles being used by Islamist militants in Syria was posted on Twitter.

The picture was posted online by the Islamic extremist brigade Ansar al-Deen Front, according to a CBS News report. It shows a black pick-up truck with a Mark-1 Plumbing decal on the door and an anti-aircraft gun in the bed.

Mark Oberholtzer, who has owned and operated Mark-1 Plumbing in Texas City for the past 32 years, confirmed it was his pickup truck in the picture. He said he no longer owned the vehicle and had no idea how it ended up in Syria.

Oberholtzer said he traded in the truck to an AutoNation dealership three years ago. He usually takes the decals off his vehicles when he sells them but he left it on this truck with the expectation that AutoNation would remove it.

?They were supposed to have done it and it looks like they didn?t do it,? Oberholtzer said. ?How it ended up in Syria, I?ll never know.?

He began receiving calls about the truck and the picture on Monday afternoon, Oberholtzer said. By Tuesday he said his business had received a thousand calls and faxes about the image.

?A few of the people are really ugly,? he said.

Derek Duckett, emergency management coordinator for Texas City, said he was unaware of any threats but was checking with local police to reach out to Mark 1 to see whether it needed assistance.

Oberholtzer said he didn?t know what to do about all the attention he was getting from the picture. He just wanted the public to know that the vehicle was no longer his.

?I just want it to go away, to tell you the truth,? he said.

That's gonna hurt his business, such bad negative publicity. He should sue the AutoNation company he sold it to.

Googgle Reviews

"When they first showed up, I was not sure if they were in the right area, but they destroyed that infidel clog in my toilet with that cannon on the back of their truck. Would recommend to anyone!"

"Fixed my plumbing issue very quickly, the toilet in the basement was not working, afterwords he drove around the back of my house and shot 5 terrorists that have been causing problems in my back yard."

"I don't know what it is about these guys, but they just work magic when it comes to plumbing, excellent execution. I was a little shocked by the autocannon on the roof of the truck, but I could only assume that it's to fight off competition.

Taking off a star for kidnapping and beheading my water heater, though."

oh man that does suck for the guy who sold the pickup, and those idiots flaming him on twitter and other social platforms could not think for one moment that this was not something he did? to that i say WTF is wrong with you!

Leave the guy alone to enjoy the holidays. although the pickup is now in a warzone this could be more publicity than he could have wished for and in a good way.

hopefully every one else who has a brain in there head will see the funny side to this and send lots of business his way.

I doubt a lawsuit would go anywhere. He chose to leave the decals on. The truck was likely sold at an auto auction after AutoNation took possession of it. Unless he got something in writing saying the decals would be removed by AutoNation, this one is on him.

Give all the trucks in his fleet a free oil change and call it a day.

I doubt a lawsuit would go anywhere. He chose to leave the decals on. Only a moron would assume a crappy operation like AutoNation would remove them.

the dealership that he sold it to should have sanitized the pickup he has every right to take court action agains them. I hope he wins

Why would they sanitize it if they were just going to auction it off or send it to a junk yard? Heh, we have new car dealers in Colorado that don't do a darn thing to their used inventory before putting them on the lot for sale. Well, nothing other than an oil change and emissions test. They claim it's to keep their prices low. Every dealership does their resales their own way. LOL, you think the ma and pa corner lots, at least in the US, sanitize their cars?! Dude was too lazy to remove his own stupid decals. Like I said, though, if he had a written agreement, that's a different story.

Anyway, I come from a generation of folks that don't run the courthouse whenever something doesn't go our way. Other people don't know how to pull up their big-boy pants, so they tie up the courts with asinine lawsuits.

Sorry I am not an American I'm from Germany.  the pickup had his contact info all over it, so common sense dictates that the dealer should have spotted this and removed it, or would that have eaten into some important seconds of his day?

Here the same truck but has no Mark-1 logo on it reported by Dailymail.

Is someone trying to demote the guy business?

It's not the same truck. See the images again and the reporter that did that article must be Mr. Magoo disguised.

Obviously it isn't the same truck.  However, it appears to be photoshopped with the plumbing truck inserted into the video still.  Since this was released by the same Islamist group...they would have the orginal video to work with...not the compressed web version we see.

It could be a legit picture with the plumbing truck being there before/after the video ... the location/approx time is very much the same (evident by road debris/clouds/etc).

Least they have the number for a good plumber, just in case :p

Yup, the scene is almost identical (not the truck, the background)

I'll go out on a limb here and call photoshop

Another possible 'tell', looking at the truck, the gun is firing toward the left rear (aspect from the truck) but the operator seems to be looking more toward the left front (ie, not looking at the direction of fire)
