Google has revealed that it will stop releasing 32-bit versions of the Chrome browser for Mac starting in November.
According to the Google Apps Updates blog, the company will no longer make 32-bit versions of the browser available for Mac-based computers, unlike Windows, where both the versions are available simultaneously.
Google has announced that the 32-bit NPAPI plugins will stop working with the future Chrome versions on Mac, while the 64-bit variants will be supported till the end of the year before being completely removed in favor of HTML5 APIs.
Majority of Mac users have been found to be running 64-bit versions of OS X, which would allow Google to push the browser for a single architecture on the platform. Windows users recently got the taste of 64-bit Chrome when it was finally released to the stable channel, but there's still a long way to go till Google can ditch 32-bit on Windows or Linux completely, owing to the large install base of older operating systems.
