April 15th may be the day that many people in the U.S dread, as they mail in their federal tax returns. However, Google has chosen today to be the one day that it will allow those same citizens a chance to purchase the Explorer version of its Google Glass product.
As previously announced, the Explorer version of Google Glass can now be bought for $1,500 from the Glass website. For that rather high price, you get a wearable device with an adjustable nose-pad and hardware that includes a 5 megapixel camera that takes 720p video. It also has 16 GB of Flash memory, of which 12 GB is actually useable, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless support and a bone conduction transducer for audio; the battery life is supposed to last up to one day.
The frames come in a choice of five colors (black, white, gray, red and blue) and the Glass package includes a cable and charger, a mono earbud and a pouch. Google is offering Explorer users a complementary frame that can hold the lenses for Glass. Normally they would cost between $150 (for shades) to $225 (for the titanium frames). There are also some extra accessories for sale that include clear shades for $75, stereo earbuds for $85 and a hard case for $75.
Remember, this offer is just for today and only for U.S. residents; Google currently plans to launch the final consumer version of Google Glass later in 2014.
