Google releases updated Android 5.1.1 Lollipop factory image for Nexus 7

Google's latest non-preview OS release is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, and the company released its first factory images of that version for the Nexus 7 two months ago. However, it has now quietly published a new factory image for the device.

Specifically, it's the Nexus 7 (2013) for which the new image has been released. The earlier Android 5.1.1 build for the ASUS-built tablet was LMY47V; the latest image, which is now available on the Google Developers site, is LMY48G.

The new image is currently available only for the Wi-Fi model, but it's expected to be released for the cellular model too, and perhaps for other Nexus devices as well. However, the next major OS version is also on the way - Android 'M' will be released sometime in the next quarter.

Google hasn't yet published a changelog for the latest build, but it's likely to deliver nothing more than minor maintenance updates to fix a few bugs.
