Google's Nexus Player is now on sale in the UK for £79.99

Google unveiled its Nexus Player back in October, alongside its new Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet. The Player is the company's showcase device for its nascent Android TV platform, offering access to movies, TV shows, music, apps and other content, with a UI designed for the big screen in your living room.

Earlier this week, pre-orders opened on Amazon UK for the device, priced at £79.99, with deliveries scheduled for March 26, suggesting that its official UK launch would come today.

Right on cue, Google has now announced that the device is launching in the UK today, promising availability at Argos, Currys PC World, Amazon, John Lewis and eBuyer, as well as its new Google Store, which launched a couple of weeks ago.

At time of publishing, the only live listing from any of these companies was at popular British retailer Argos, where it is on sale for £79.99. Home delivery is not yet available, but some stores do have stock, so you may be able to order online for collection at a nearby store. Expect other retailers to update their listings in the hours ahead.

The Nexus Player comes with its own dedicated remote control, which includes an integrated microphone for voice interactions with the device itself. Those who want to enjoy the gaming capabilities of the Player can buy the matching controller, priced at £34.99.
