Microsoft confirms delay to launch of unlocked Surface 3 4G LTE

In late July, Microsoft launched a new version of its Surface 3 tablet, with integrated 4G LTE connectivity. The Surface 3 is a smaller and more affordable version of the Pro 3 tablet, with which it shares many common features, including specially-designed Type Cover keyboards, multi-stage rear kickstand, and Surface Pen support.

The LTE model went on sale via US carrier AT&T in July, but those seeking an unlocked version were told that they would have to wait until late August. However, with August now behind us, Microsoft has acknowledged that it's missed its intended launch date.

In an update on its Surface Blog, Microsoft announced revised launch dates for the Surface 3 (4G LTE). Pre-orders will open in the US on September 3, and in Canada on September 10, ahead of release in both countries on September 19.

In France, Germany and the UK, it seems pre-orders won't be available at all - but the device will go on sale in those markets on October 2.
