Microsoft releases new patch for Windows 10 build 9879

Yo dawg so I heard you liked patches

Microsoft’s latest official version of Windows 10 Technical Preview, build 9879, has its fair share of bugs but the company is doing its best to help those in the Insider program and with that, has released yet another patch.

The company released a fix for some random explorer.exe crashes that many users were encountering when using build 9879. However that fix itself ran into trouble when a fair number of users couldn’t install it.

Now Microsoft has released another fix that solves the problems Windows Update was having with the original fix. The issues stemmed from a change in the way Windows 10 utilizes SSDs and compresses data to reduce disk usage.

The hotfix is available via Windows Update and users are encouraged to install the latest updates even if they haven’t encountered issues, because these also address underlying problems that could show up in the future.

Of course this type of support is only available for those on official preview builds, so if you’ve installed one of the recently leaked versions and are having issues, you may be out of luck until January.
