Sony and some of its employees are having a really bad day as last night the company’s movie division, Sony Pictures, got hacked, which pretty much took down computers across the whole studio.
According to a report from Variety the company’s IT systems were compromised by a group calling themselves “#GOP”. The hackers managed to infiltrate the systems after originally infecting a server.
The group left behind an image with a warning claiming access to sensitive company information which would be publicly disclosed later on Monday (November the 24th, 11:00 PM GMT) if their demands aren’t met. What those demands are, is not exactly clear.
Meanwhile, Sony Pictures employees have been sent home and warned against using the company’s servers or the local Wi-fi for fear that further devices may be compromised.
Obviously the original time and date has already passed and nothing seems to have happened yet. Though that doesn't mean it won't in the near future. In case sensitive info does become public, or we get to see some unfinished Sony movie, it won’t be hard to figure out where it came from.
