Spotify is expanding, wants to be the soundtrack for your life

Spotify has over 60 million active subscribers and is undoubtedly the king when it comes to streaming music. Today, Spotify is launching an improved service that will add more content and improve on its fundamental offerings.

Spotify's "The Now" start page will automatically create a playlist for you that will learn from your listening habits. The new start page will be a mix of music selected by the user and Spotify's in-house experts. In addition to music, users will now be able to enjoy audio content and podcasts provided by some industry heavyweights such as ABC, BBC, Comedy Central, ESPN, NBC, TED and Vice Media. Spotify will also partner with artists to offer original shows and content, along with artist curated programming.

While Spotify's main business will still focus on audio, they will now begin offering video content as well. Spotify will have programming partnerships from a number of supporters including but not limited to NBC, TED, BBC, Adult Swim and Comedy Central. Naturally, Spotify will expand the list of content providers as time progresses.

Lastly, Spotify will attempt to cater to those who use the app for work outs and runs bu introducing a new mode, "Spotify Running". Spotify Running will offer an integrated tempo detector that will curate music based on your movement. This will theoretically make your runs and exercises more fruitful by adjusting the music to the users movement. Spotify will also offer Nike+ and RunKeeper integration sometime this summer.

Spotify is reshaping its music streaming service for the future; while it's uncertain whether this is the right path, they do realize the importance of creating more than just a music streaming service. Spotify is clearly aiming to not only provide you with music, but also offer a service that can be the soundtrack and backbone to your daily life.
