Windows 10 Tip: Using Action Center

Windows 10 is a brand new OS from Microsoft that brings with it several new features including Action Center. The feature, which combines all of your notifications into one area, makes it much faster to locate a toast notification (the banner that pops up on your screen with an alert) than in Windows 8.

Action Center can be launched from the system tray in the bottom right corner of your desktop. The icon will look like a chat bubble and if it is solid white, then there are notifications present; and if it is empty, then you have no notifications to review.

By clicking on the Action Center icon, a panel will open up from the right side of the screen. Alternatively, if you are using touch, you can slide your finger in from the right side of the screen to slide out the window.

At the bottom of the Action Center are shortcuts to frequently used settings and by clicking any of them, this will open the Settings app in the relevant section. As of right now, you cannot change these default shortcuts but hopefully Microsoft will let you adjust them in the future.

If you ever see something pop up on your screen and you are not sure what it is or what app it belongs to, make sure to check the Action Center as it will be retained there for viewing at a later time. Alerts from Cortana will be shown here too if you miss the pop up dialog.

All of these features are live in the version of Edge that ships today and if you are looking for more Windows 10 tips, you can find them here.
