Amplitude's Humankind hit with another delay, pushing the 4X game to August

Sega and Amplitude Studios today announced that Humankind will no longer meet its April 22 launch, as the 4X title has been delayed for the second time. The game was originally slated for 2020 following its 2019 reveal, but last year it was pushed back to April 2021. The latest setback has the strategy game now releasing on August 17 later this year.

The developer revealed that the last-minute delay is to give itself extra time for polishing and working with the community for the best day one experience.

"When we first announced our upcoming historical strategy title Humankind, we called it our magnum opus, and we meant every word of that," said the studio in a statement. "The response so far has been amazing: the community has been super excited and involved with the development at every step of the way, and we intend to honor their expectations for the game."

Amplitude will be taking feedback from its Lucy OpenDev community beta sessions to identify and focus specific elements that need attention, including "Accessibility, Onboarding, Pacing, Balancing, Diplomacy and AI". Head to the studio's latest dev blog to find out about what areas are being reworked and tweaked.

As pre-orders had already opened up for the game before this delay, the studio will be including two more avatars as pre-order bonuses for fans, with Lucy and Edgar Allan Poe avatars arriving for customizing leaders.

Humankind is heading to Steam, Epic Games Store, and Stadia on August 17, aiming to disrupt the Civilization series-dominated 4X strategy space.
