Apple to open its first retail store in Singapore

Apple has recently confirmed that it will soon be opening its first retail store in Singapore, its first in the Southeast Asian region.

TechinAsia first learned about the move, as the former owner of the space Apple will build its store on released a statement saying that the Pure Fitness Knightsville branch will be closing to make way for a new Apple store which is coming by late 2016. Apple was also reportedly busy hiring employees for its store. And today, Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s Senior Vice President for Retail and Online Stores, finally confirmed through TechCrunch that its retail store is indeed coming soon to the country. She states:

We have more than 900 incredible employees working in our Singapore contact center and are thrilled to begin hiring the team that will open our first Apple Store in Singapore — an incredible international city and shopping destination. We can’t wait to deliver the service, education and entertainment that is loved by Apple customers around the world.

Furthermore, Apple has also recently closed a deal with solar energy developer Sunseap Group, to power its store, and its entire Singapore operations with renewable energy. The agreement, according to a report from Reuters, will make Apple the first company in Singapore to be powered exclusively by renewable electrcity.

It is not yet known when the Apple store will exactly open to the public.
