Two years ago at IFA, Lenovo introduced Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, and augmented reality game that let you have real lightsaber fights against Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, and more. It came with the Mirage headset, a lightsaber controller, and a tracking beacon. Today, the company is continuing its partnership with Disney.
This time around, Lenovo is announcing Marvel Dimension of Heroes. It uses the same headset and tracking beacon, but it has new controllers and it's based on Marvel characters Captain America, Thor, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Star-Lord. You'll be able to play as those six characters in an original story and "take on infamous Super Villains".
The game works similarly to Star Wars: Jedi Challenges, using the same hardware. The Mirage headset requires a compatible smartphone (1.4GHz dual-core + 1GB RAM on iOS or 2GHz quad-core + 2GB RAM on Android) to work, and the whole game is powered by an app on your phone. The good news is that if you already own the Star Wars game, you'll be able to just buy the new controllers, using your existing headset and beacon.
There are three different game modes. Story Mode is where the Dread Dormammu, Lord of the Darm Dimension, attacks Earth and you have to defend it. The villains of the story also include Loki, Ronan the Accuser, Ultron Prime, and the Winter Soldier, and Doctor Strange turns back time to give you a chance to save the world.
Survival Mode has you fighting off waves of villains, as you'd expect from the name. And finally, there's Co-Op mode, where you get to play alongside of a friend.
And if history is indication, Lenovo and Disney will continue to add content to the game over time. After Star Wars: Jedi Challenges came out, the companies pushed several feature updates.
Lenovo Mirage AR with Marvel Dimension of Heroes will be available on September 6 from Amazon and Lenovo.com for $249.99. There will also be an update for Star Wars: Jedi Challenges that will add support for the new controllers.
