Halo Infinite launched last year and the long-awaited Halo show is coming exclusively to Paramount+ in March 2022. While it's a time of celebration for fans, original Halo composers Marty O'Donnell and Mike Salvatori are seeking "clarity" over unpaid royalties from the time when Bungie was owned by Microsoft.
O'Donnell has sued Bungie over Destiny in the past, with the latest entry in this legal saga culminating with O'Donnell being found in contempt of court and ordered to pay $100,000 in damages. According to the lawsuit filed against Microsoft, O'Donnell and Salvatori, who created the music for Halo with Bungie, say that Microsoft owes them royalties from almost two decades ago.
A mediation date is set for next week, and maybe Microsoft and O'Donnell will reach an agreement. If not, the case may go to court. According to a report by Eurogamer, O'Donnell and Salvatori have also instructed their lawyers to try and block the release of the upcoming Halo show by filing an injunction against it.
It's clear that O'Donnell and Salvatori are being quite aggressive in pursuing their alleged royalties. Microsoft will probably be forced to respond soon because injunctions can be granted easily, pending outcomes of court cases that can drag on for years.
