Microsoft is teasing a 'Halo 5' announcement in two days

"Halo 5: Guardians" is slated for release later this year, and Microsoft appears to be ramping up anticipation for its popular franchise by teasing an announcement related to the game.

As tweeted by Frank O'Connor, steward of the Halo franchise at Microsoft-owned developer 343 Industries, a Tumblr page called "Hunt the Truth" has a countdown set to end Sunday involving "Halo 5." An image of a bullet inscribed with the word "traitor" is prominently featured on the page, likely referring to franchise protagonist Master Chief being hunted.

"Halo 5" will feature a new protagonist in Jameson Locke, who is learning about and searching for Master Chief, as indicated in cutscenes in "Halo: The Master Chief Collection." According to a synopsis of "Halo 5" on Microsoft's official Xbox Wire website, "Spartan Locke is tasked with hunting the Master Chief and solving a mystery that threatens the entire galaxy."

The archive for the Tumblr page indicates its sole post was created Thursday, and a button on the page allows visitors to tweet the following message: "What seems like the end, is only the beginning."
