With none of the excitement and buzz of a launch event, Microsoft unveiled the Lumia 650 last month in a blog post. But the company has kept its North American launch even more low-key than that, quietly opening pre-orders for the device on its site with no announcement.
You can now pre-order the Lumia 650 SIM-free and off-contract from the Microsoft Store in the United States for $199 USD; and in Canada, where it will cost $199 CAD.
Its key specs include:
- 5-inch AMOLED with HD (1280x720px) resolution and Gorilla Glass 3
- Quad-core 1.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB onboard storage (plus microSD card support up to 200GB)
- 8MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and 720p video recording at 30fps
- 5MP front-facing camera with continous autofocus, 'video light' and 720p video at 30fps
- Bluetooth 4.1
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with support for Wi-Fi calling
- 4G LTE connectivity (bands 1, 3, 7, 8 and 20)
- NFC support
- microUSB 2.0 with Type B connector
- Removable 2000mAh battery
- 142 x 71 x 6.9mm; 122g
The Lumia 650 will begin shipping in both the US and Canada on April 1. Details of carrier availability in North America have not yet been revealed, but it seems likely that in the US at least, it will be joining Cricket's range. Microsoft also revealed this week that the device will soon be available in Mexico, priced at 4,399 pesos.
Meanwhile, over in the UK, the 650 went on sale three weeks ago, but its price has already started to drop.
