Nintendo Wii mini announced for Canada, coming Dec. 7

Hot on the heels of the official launch of the new Wii U console in the United States, Nintendo has announced plans today to launch a smaller version of its already tiny 2006 Wii console on December 7. The catch? The new console will be an exclusive for Canada, at least for now.

The console will be called, not surprising, the Wii mini. Nintendo's page for the console reveals that it will come with a red Wiimote Plus controller, a red Nunchuk, a sensor bar, a power adapter and a standard composite cable. However, the Wii mini will be strictly a gaming console. The hardware won't have any Internet hardware or features. It also won't be able to play older GameCube games like the original Wii did when it was first launched.

So far, Nintendo has offered up no information regarding if and when the Wii mini will be released in the United States and other parts of the world. The console will be priced in Canada for $99.99.

Nintendo said this week that it sold 400,000 units of its new Wii U console during its first week of sales in the US. It launches in Europe on Friday and in Japan on December 8th.
