Sky has announced that it will launch 5G connectivity on its mobile network from November this year. Sky Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) which utilises the O2 network infrastructure. Sky’s announcement comes just a day after O2 announced it would begin rolling out 5G from October.
With Sky Mobile leveraging O2’s network, its 5G rollout plan will be similar to O2’s. In its statement, Sky confirms that the launch will begin with six towns and cities before rolling out to a total of 20 by the end of the year and 50 by the end of 2020. Unlike O2, Sky Mobile has already begun selling a 5G handset in the form of the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G.
The Huawei Mate 20 X 5G starts from £36 per month on the Swap24 contract, excluding the data plan. For £10 extra (discounted from £15), customers can add 8GB of data with unlimited calls and texts. Those who get a 5G device now will be ready to benefit from 5G connectivity in November but 5G pricing is yet to be revealed, meaning your bill could increase.
