The electric car firm, Tesla, has decided to drop the Standard Range variants of its Model X and Model S vehicles, leaving only the Long Range and Performance options available, albeit at slightly adjusted prices. With the change, Tesla is positioning the Model 3 as its go-to entry-level vehicle with its $38,990 price tag.
With the abolition of the Standard Range vehicles, the starting price for the Model X has gone up to $84,990, while the Model S will set you back $79,990 for the entry-level customisations - the Model 3 is less than half the cost of both of these vehicles, making it more attractive to potential customers.
In a statement, Tesla said:
“To make purchasing our vehicles even simpler, we are standardizing our global vehicle lineup and streamlining the number of trim packages offered for Model S, Model X and Model 3. We are also adjusting our pricing in order to continue to improve affordability for customers.”
The announcement by Tesla comes after it reported a 51% rise in global deliveries in the second quarter contrasted against the first quarter. During the second quarter, the total deliveries reached a record figure of 92,500, with the Model 3 accounting for about 80% of the total. The Model 3 also got a major boost this month after the Euro NCAP awarded the vehicle five stars across the board in its tests, showing it to be a very safe vehicle.
