There's nothing like a little festive fun during the holidays and it looks like Tesla has just injected that into supported vehicles with their latest update.
For those that own a Model X, the new update will allow you to "travel" around Mars and also turn your vehicle into a traveling light show. In order to enable the aforementioned modes, you'll want to hold down the "T" logo at the top of the display for roughly five seconds. At that point, you'll want to type "Mars" when prompted for an access code. Then, your navigation map on the display will transform into the surface of the Red Planet. By following the same steps above and replacing the input code with "ModelXmas" or "holidays", you'll be treated to a unique light show with music upon exiting and locking your vehicle. Although the light show is unique to the Model X, the Model S should accept the "Mars" code.
It's hard to believe that it has been almost ten years since Tesla delivered its first electric vehicle, the Tesla Roadster in 2008. Although the form factor of the vehicle would make it a niche product, it would eventually open the doors for the more popular Model S and Model X. And while Tesla has been under scrutiny for its quality control, it aims to up the production numbers with its next vehicle, the Model 3.
While the company's previous efforts introduced vehicles that started around $70,000, it is aiming to bring the technology to the masses by offering a more affordable automobile with the Model 3. The Model 3 proved to be wildly popular as it had a huge pre-order volume on its initial offering with over 275,000 customers putting down $1,500 each. The Model 3 is expected to arrive sometime in 2017.
