The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has been piloting a program at ten airports that requires passengers with any electronic devices larger than a cell phone to remove them and place them in separate bins when going through the screening process. Now, that process will be expanding to all airports in the United States in the coming months.
While laptops were always required to be removed and separately screened, now tablets, e-readers and handheld game consoles will be added to the list, making it a bit more work when trying to make it on time to your next flight. Per usual, TSA staff will be on hand to gently assist you if you have no idea about the process and what it entails.
Although it's more costly, the TSA Pre Check program might be an option worth considering for some, as it allows passengers to gain expedited service through the screening process without having to remove clothing items or electronics from bags. This service is not free and does require the applicant to submit an application, get interviewed, and if all goes well, fingerprinted for approval.
