Tumblr is adding yet another content monetization tool. The Tumblr Tip Jar is a way to appreciate content creators with small monetary rewards. Content creators will be able to keep all the amount they earn through this method.
Just like the YouTube “Thanks” feature, the Tumblr Tip Jar allows viewers and subscribers to tip their favorite creators on the platform. The process involves clicking or tapping on the “Tip” button with a dollar sign on any post. Users can then choose the amount they want to give through their preferred payment channels.
The Tumblr Tip Jar feature is limiting the reward amount to $100. Users can choose to send the money anonymously or add a message. Those choosing to send money can also see who else has sent tips on the same post.
The new feature is currently available to users in the U.S., but the platform has indicated that more regions will be included soon. The most attractive aspect of Tumblr Tip Jar is that Tumblr will not take any commission from the payments. Payments will go through Stripe, and credit card fees will apply.
Tumblr Tip Jar is the second monetization tool the platform has introduced in recent times. About eight months ago, Tumblr launched “Post+”. It is a subscription service that allows content creators to charge users for some exclusive content. Post+ starts at $3.99 per month, with additional premium tiers at $5.99 and $9.99 per month.
Needless to add, Post+ is a recurring payment plan. The Tumblr Tip Jar, on the other hand, can help content creators earn tips for their publicly available posts. Moreover, those opting to offer monetary rewards can vary the amount as per their desire.
