It shouldn't be a big surprise that Microsoft is a large supporter of philanthropic activities considering one of its founders, Bill Gates, is giving away billions to fight disease and pursue solutions to clean water as well. To build on this idea, on July 29th, Microsoft is letting employees take time off of work and volunteer at local organizations.
The idea is quite simple: Microsoft is pushing the tagline 'upgrade your world' with Windows 10 and to take this concept beyond software, they are letting employees upgrade the real world by volunteering with charitable organizations on the 29th, according to those familiar with the company's plans. We are hearing that Microsoft is limiting the total number of employees to 2000 that can signup for the opportunities, but we are still working to verify this figure. The reason being that the company does need to be operational that day as it is the launch of Windows 10 and if everyone took the time off, then it could impact daily operations.
While this gesture is not intended to be a marketing ploy, it does fall in-line with several other events going on at Microsoft to raise awareness about the OS including changing the banners on campus, OneWeek is occurring next week, and of course the advertising campaign for the OS has now officially kicked off.
For Microsoft, July 29th is a day of celebration as they release Windows 10, which is the culmination of several years of hard work.
