Symbian is officially no more, at least as a brand for Nokia. The mobile phone maker announced today that it will be renaming its next update of the long running mobile OS Nokia Belle, rather than Symbian Belle. It's the end of an era for the name of Nokia's home grown operating system which has been the basis for many of its phones.
The newly renamed Nokia Belle UI was previously released with the Nokia 701, Nokia 700 and Nokia 603 smartphones and will be pre-installed on the new and enhanced versions of the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 phones when they launch in China and other parts of the world.
People who already own the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7, and Nokia Oro phones will get a free over the air software update that will update their phones with the new Nokia Belle UI in February 2012.
Naturally Nokia is still working with Microsoft with developing smartphones based on the Windows Phone operating system. Indeed, we expect some big announcements from Nokia and Microsoft when CES 2012 is held in early January,
