Last week, Samsung made a lot of smartphone and tablet owners very unhappy. It announced that owners of the Galaxy S smartphone and the original seven inch Galaxy Tab tablet would not be able to get an update to Google's Android 4.0 operating system. This naturally didn't please owners of both devices, particularly the Galaxy S users. Samsung has sold over 10 million of the smartphones since they were released in 2010.
A massive Internet uproar over Samsung's decision took place and it now appears that Samsung is taking the criticism to heart. The Verge reports that according to Korean news sources, Samsung is now reviewing the situation and it will look into getting the Android 4.0 update to work on those devices.
You may remember that the reason Samsung said the Galaxy S and the first Galaxy Tab could not get the Android 4.0 upgrade was that both devices have a lot of software that is already installed in their RAM and ROM memory. Those programs included things like the TouchWiz software, specific wireless carrier services, video calling software and more. Samsung claimed at the time there wasn't enough space available to accommodate Android 4.0 as well.
Needless to say, this slight switch in attitude is welcome and we hope that Samsung makes every effort to get Android 4.0 out to the owners of these products.
