It's not uncommon for Samsung to release ruggedized versions of its devices for jobs that demand more durable designs over aesthetics, which it usually does using the Active moniker. The latest such device is the Galaxy Tab Active Pro, which was announced today for businesses in the U.S.
Like most rugged devices, it has a MIL-STD-810G rating for durability and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Likewise, the included S Pen is also IP68-rated and it can be used even if the display is wet. Samsung also says the tablet offers settings so the touchscreen can be used with work gloves.
That screen is 10.1 inches diagonally, which is the largest Samsung has used in a rugged tablet, but if that's not enough, the Tab Active Pro is also Samsung's first rugged tablet to support DeX, so you can connect to an external display and use it like a PC. The 7600 mAh battery on the Tab Active Pro can last up to 15 hours on a charge, and if you don't have time to charge it on the spot, it's also replaceable.
Other specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage than can be expanded via microSD cards. It also has a rear-facing 13MP camera with autofocus and an 8MP front-facing shooter. In terms of software, it's running Android Pie, and not the newer Android 10.
Samsung says the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro is available today for businesses in the U.S., but it doesn't actually seem to be available yet. Samsung also didn't say how much it will cost, but we've reached out to the company for more information and we'll update this post if we hear back.
Update: Samsung has confirmed that the Wi-Fi model starts at $599.99, while the LTE model will be $679.99. Currently, the tablet is only available through Samsung's reseller partners, but it will be on the company's business website later this week.
